In an advisory issued to private news channels, the Ministry for Information and Broadcasting asked TV channels to exercise caution regarding content which is likely to incite violence or content which is likely to violate law and order. The advisory further advised TV channels against showing content which is likely to promote “anti-national attitudes”.
The advisory also cautioned TV channels against showing content which contains attacks on religions or communities or which is defamatory, false or half-true.
The advisory asked channels to ensured that no content is telecast which is violative of the Programme and Advertising Codes as prescribed in the Cable Television Network (Regulation) Act, 1995. “All private satellite TV channels are requested to ensure strict compliance,” it added.
