Republic TV editor in chief Arnab Goswami has moved the Supreme Court seeking the quashing of FIRs which have been filed against him after he questioned Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s reported silence over the brutal lynching of Sadhus in Palghar
The matter will be heard by a bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud and M R Shah via video-conferencing at 10.30 AM Friday (24 April).
Arnab Goswami has earned the ire of various Congress leaders and supporters after he questioned Sonia Gandhi on live television. This resulted in a slew of FIRs against him in various states like Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.
He was also attacked on the intervening night of the 22 and 23 April by two bike borne assailants who attempted to break down his car window and threw bottles of ink. They were later apprehended and are purportedly members of the Youth Congress.
The Editors Guild of India on Thursday strongly condemned the alleged attack on senior journalist Arnab Goswami and his wife, saying any physical assault, instigation for hate or verbal abuse hurled against any scribe is a “reprehensible act”.
The Guild also urged the Mumbai Police to bring to book those who had attacked Goswami and his wife.In a statement, the Guild said it strongly condemns the “physical attack” against senior editors of Republic TV channel Arnab Goswami and Samyabrata Ray.
“Any physical attack, instigation for hate or verbal abuse hurled against any journalist is a reprehensible act. The freedom to express one”s views or report facts without any fear or intimidation whatsoever is the most fundamental tenet of journalism,” the Guild said.
