Renowned satirist, journalist, and poet Sanjay Upadhyay breathed his last at the age of 52 from heart failure in his home town Etah on Wednesday.

A man who lived a simple life in Etah  , Upadhyay had a global vision which was was visible in another of his much-appreciated creation ‘Dabochiya’.

Apart from these, some of his other well-known satirical collections included ‘Kutta Anupaat Aadmi’, ‘Woh Lucky Ladki’, ‘Nasht Nar’, and ‘Khurdare Dharatal Par Vyangya Yatra’.

Known for its fertile lands, Etah has also been well known for its poets and litterateurs. Sanjay Upadhyay’s name rose up in this crowd as a satire-oriented literary figure in the 90s. He gave new heights to the satirical genre of literature which was often neglected in this region.

Upadhyay’s sudden demise at the age of just 52 years shocked the local community of literary thinkers and writers, who were reminded of his numerous satirical anthologies that were published in the past 15 years. His innovative style of criticizing the system and social injustice through the sharp weapons of his satire was very far-reaching and highly relevant.

His published works are a part of the literary world’s heritage which will be known for pointing out the systemic and social anomalies in the society, which are felt by us at every step. At such a young age, such an elaborate literary journey is rare.

In fact, Sanjay Upadhyay attacked the social taboos from so many angles in his works that it left an intense and long-lasting effect on the reader.

As a   journalist , Sanjay Upadhyay worked in numerous newspapers and even took out his own newspaper at one time, before turning full-time to the creation of several satirical masterpieces. Quite a few of his works were awaiting publication at the time of his death and his family intends to release these works in the form of an anthology dedicated to him, in the near future.
